The escarpment overlooking Ranger uranium mine, ‘Djidbidjidbi’ (King Brown Snake Dreaming)—also called Mount Brockman—is a sacred place for Mirarr. The power of this site and the risk that it would be disturbed by the proposed mine formed a big part of Mirarr’s opposition to Ranger. This bark painting, by Tim Djandjomerr, depicts Djidbidjidbi.

Each year, the Goldman Environmental Prize is awarded to grassroots environmental champions from around the world.
