Collection: Jabiluka backfill – 2003

In August 2003 – following an agreement between ERA (Rio Tinto), the Mirarr and the Northern Land Council to formally shelve the Jabiluka uranium project – ERA/Rio Tinto began backfilling the Jabiluka mine, returning 47,000 tonnes of uranium ore underground and granting Mirarr veto rights over future mining.
